Deciding who wore the Dutch goalkeeping jersey during the '70s was a tough decision that forced the coach to take into account both styles of play and personal politics. The two most well-known goalies of this decade were Jan Van Beveren of PSV and Jan Jongbloed of Ajax, the former was a traditional style of a keeper and the later was a part of a new wave of guardians capable of playing comfortably with the ball at their feet as well as in their hands. Van Beveren won 32 caps between 1967 and 1977 but never played in a major tournament. Jongbloed won fewer caps but played all the important games at the 1974 and 1978 World Cups.
