The Gradidge Company was founded by Harry Gradidge in 1870. through the early part of the 20th century the business was based at 36 Artillery Place, Woolwich, London, SE18. Harry's two sons joined the business and the business was henceforth know as H. Gradidge and Sons.
The company was a quality cricket bat manufacturer. Their expertise was known throughout the empire and their bats are now rare and difficult to find.
Gradidges and Sons were bought-out by Slazenger Ltd in 1931 after the Wall Street crash.
During the second world war the Slazenger-Gradidge factory made nearly a million wooden rifle stocks for the allied war effort. The life of the factory came to its end in 1942 when the Luftwaffe hit it for six and wiped it out.
