Our wonderful smiling cyclist, Italy’s Alberto Ghilardi (25 August 1909 – 30 June 1971) won Olympic Gold at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Ghilardi held off stiff competition from the French and British pursuit teams. Italy had a strong Olympic cycling programme in 1932 and finished with more cycling medals than any other nation winning a total of five medals, 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. This wonderful moment was captured by Luigi Leoni Italian 1899-1991). This happy image is suitable for museum or gallery display but it would also make a great gift to showcase in your home, hotel, restaurant or office.
