Baseball is one of the oldest major sports at the University of Pennsylvania. The earliest record of baseball being played at Penn dates back to 1864 and at a time when intercollegiate sports were not operating within the organizational framework we know today. Sport was simply sport, a collegiate pastime.
At the time, baseball was played in both the spring and the fall but in 1875 spring became the official baseball season. 1958 marked the second time the University of Pennsylvania Quakers baseball team finished runner-up in the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League.
