Founded in 1959, the Jaguars are not known for being one of the oldest teams in baseball. They are, however, known as one of the winningest Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) team to date, having won twenty-six SWAC Championships.
One of these championship teams is represented by this cap in our tribute to Southern University history. This 1969 team, coached by Emory Hines and led by future major-leaguer Jake Brown, was a continuation of the dominance Southern has shown throughout its time in baseball.
Hall of Famer Lou Brock set the stage well for the Jaguars with his tough demeanor and relentless play style. Brock once said, "Show me a guy who is afraid to look bad, and I'll show you a guy you can beat every time." Though you may not be afraid of looking bad, sporting this cap ensures that you won't!
