A member of the Pacific Coast League, the Solons represented California's capital city from 1903 to 1960. With almost as many names as there were years in its early days, the team settled on the name Solons in 1936 as a tribute to the legal status of the city ("Solons" was an ancient Greek senator).
The PCL became an unrivaled jewel in the West during the mid 20th century and brought in fierce competition for the players and unrivaled attention from fans. In 1957, however, growing competition from other leagues brought hard times on the PCL, forcing the Solons to be sold to Honolulu. While its glory days are gone, the memory of the Solons lives on.
