A member of the Ban Johnson League in Kansas City, the Katz were a collection of college and amateur players from the Kansas City area.
The Ban Johnson League is one of the oldest amateur leagues still running (currently in its 91st year). This, alongside of Kansas City's other historic leagues, has helped to create the baseball culture Kansas City is known for.
What gives the KC Katz their fame has less to do with the team and more with the legendary sponsors behind the team. The Katz drugstore was the first of its kind: mixing pharmacy with grocery and subsequently evolving into a catch-all store including exotic animals, fishing gear, and soda fountains to name a few things.
With the sell of Katz in 1971, the iconic logo and branding were lost, but the history of Kansas City baseball and the Katz family name lives on.
