The 27 years of history that made up the Islanders stint in the minor leagues could be described as the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. After their formation in 1961, they quickly became the darligns fo the minor league. Not only were they one of the most successful teams at the time, but they also were one of the most independent- striking up a marvelous deal with the Padres to only sign 6 players for the parent team at a time. This allowed them to fill a roster and trade players at their own discretion (leading to back to back pennants in 75/76).
The days at the "Termite Palace" were numbered, however, and a change of venue would prove fatal for the team. With the worst lease in the PCL matched with the worst attendance in the league, the team would close shop and move to Colorado Springs in 1988.
