A Piece of Cricket History
Crafted in Nottingham in the early 1900s (our estimate is around 1930), this English cricket bat carries with it the legacy of the legendary craftsmen at Gunn and Moore. The inscriptions across the bat tell of a time where cricket bats were as much an identity piece as they were a tool for playing the wonderful game.
Gunn & Moore was founded in 1885 by the English cricketer William Gunn and a friend, Thomas James Moore. The company was originally based at Carrington Street in Nottingham, England. William Gunn played first-class cricket and soccer. Not unusual in those times but extraordinary all the same. Gunn played for both Notts County, one of the oldest soccer clubs in the world and Nottingham Forrest. Born at St Anne's, Nottingham, Gunn was a specialist right-handed batsman. He played for England v Australia in 1886–87.
This retro bat was purchased by Vintage Sports in London early in 2017 and ships from our facility in the United States. It would make an excellent and authentic gift for a lover of cricket or an anglophile. It would look wonderful over a fireplace or on an office shelf. Sure to be an instant topic of conversation
