1955 Fencing lithograph by Hungarian artist Denes Vincze.

Vincze captures the dynamism of the movement 'Socialist Realism' demanded of Soviet artists at that time. The fencers fence on a globe, not the fencing strip. Vincze produced many commercial pieces for local, national and international sporting events. He was also a prolific sports medal designer.

The 1955 Junior Fencing World Championships was held in Budapest, Hungary and won by József Gyuricza. The event had multiple competition dates spread over a two week period. The piece we have is a bianco, the date and place of the event were added as required to the the blank bottom part of the poster.

The piece illustrates the attacking fencer from the back. Beautiful depiction of  traditional sport.
