"Boss" Schmidt was born in Coal Hill, Arkansas September 12, 1880.  From humble beginnings, he rose to fame as a catcher for the Detroit Tigers from 1906-1911.  His is a career you wouldn't hear in the hall of fame- he holds the distinction of committing 5 errors and allowing 16 stolen bases in a World Series- but his candor and determination led him to seasons of batting success.
