Established in 1903 at the Genesis of the Pacific Coast League, the Portland Beavers cemented themselves as a charter member. It was in 1956 that things began to advance for the Beavers, who moved into the 25,000 seat Multnomah Stadium. The team became the Indians minor league affiliate and established a pipeline of future all-stars including Sam McDowell, Lou Piniella, and Luis Tiant. Continuing to make history, the Beavers signed a then 56-year-old Satchel Paige in 1961. Baseball will always hold a special place in Portland, and it was this team that started the legacy.
