Sunday April 8th was the final round for the 1962 Masters. Coming down the closing stretch three of golfs greats were battling it out for the coveted green jacket. Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Dow Finsterwald had commanded the leaderboard for most of the tournament and looked poised to claim the title. Palmer had fallen early in the round, but with back to back birdies on holes 16 and 17 he surged back to tie the leaders at eight under par. The first ever three way playoff in masters history was conducted on Monday April 9th, 1962 where Palmer outlasted Player and Finsterwald to claim his third Masters title and fifth major championship.
