This is a lovely example of a 'Standard Driver' bat. Made in London and sold at Stuart, Surridge & Co Ltd. - Borough High Street, London. Made of English Willow by Stuart Surridge in around 1956. The Wellington trademark bat has faint text that reads Stuart Surridge 'Standard Driver'
Surridge Sport was started in 1867 when Stuart Surridge’s grandfather, Percy Stuart Surridge, started repairing cricket bats. Later, he started making his own bats from the willow trees that grew in his yard.
Great for display on a wall, case, or photo-shoot. Ships same day. Some cracks and dings on the blade and the rubber on the handle is not 100% but this bat is the real item. This item was acquired in London in 2018 and shipped to our HQ in Birmingham, Alabama.
In 1867 Stuart Surridge’s grandfather, Percy Stuart Surridge, began renovating cricket bats. The hobby led to a business and soon Surridge was making his own bats from the willow trees that grew on his land.
In 1893 Surridge patented the first reinforced toe in a cricket bat. It was one of England's best selling bats at the time. Percy's grandson, Stuart Surridge, became one of the most successful Surrey Captains, bringing home the national championship title in five consecutive five years.
This Vintage Cricket Bat ships from our facility in the United States.
