The development of Rugby Football in the early years was due to ‘Old Boys’ forming football clubs once they’d left school and gone into industry. This is evident with the formation of the game in 1871 with the majority of the founder clubs being made up from Old Rugbeians or Old Marlburians. The world’s first and oldest “football club” the Guy’s Hospital Football Club, established in London in 1843, was also formed by old boys from Rugby School.
