Lawrence Taylor, one of the greatest linebackers of NFL history, played his entire 13-year career with the New York Giants.
Taylor played college football for the University of North Carolina and was drafted by the Giants as the second overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Taylor won four different awards and took the league by storm. Taylor was named First Team All-Pro, NFL Rookie of the Year, NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and was selected to the Pro Bowl. L.T. would go on to produce double-digit sack totals every season from 1984-1990 including a career high of 20.5 sacks in 1986.
In this photograph, Taylor is featured after recording a sack on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham. This sack was an important play in that season because fans were starting to doubt L.T. because they thought he was becoming too slow. Taylor proved the doubters wrong by sacking Cunningham three times during this game and was able to keep the Eagles QB out of the end zone on this exact play.
Taylor was also the most important player of the New York Giants "Big Blue Wrecking Crew" that helped them win two Super Bowls in 1986 and 1990. Along with his two Super Bowl rings, Taylor would be selected to the Pro Bowl ten times, named First Team All-Pro eight times, named NFL Most Valuable Player one time, and named NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times during his remarkable professional career.
Lawrence Taylor was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
