The 1989 NBA Finals between the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers was a rematch of the previous year's Finals. The Lakers were looking to "three-peat" as they had won the previous two championships while the Pistons were looking to finally breakthrough as they had been runner-up the past year.
Two superstars, Magic Johnson and Dennis Rodman, were matched up against each other a good amount in these NBA Finals. Magic won his 2nd Most Valuable Player this season but would injure his hamstring in Game 2 of The Finals and would miss the rest of the series. This injury would severely impact the outcome of the series and would see the Pistons sweeping the Lakers in 4 games. The Pistons were nicknamed "The Bad Boys" during this season for their physical play especially from Dennis Rodman and Bill Laimbeer.
Magic Johnson spent his entire NBA career as an LA Laker and won 5 championships. Dennis Rodman played for five different NBA teams and won 5 championships as well. Magic was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003 and Dennis was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.
